The Lasso Tool lets you draw selection on the map to select multiple records at once. Once selected, you can bulk edit the assignee, project, or status of every record in your selection — or delete them all in one action. This is especially useful when your records are grouped by geography rather than a shared attribute.
Requirements
Available on the Fulcrum web app only
Editing selected records requires Bulk Edit and/or Bulk Delete permissions. Learn more about Bulk Edit/Delete.
How to use the Lasso Tool
Step 1: Open the Data Viewer
Navigate to your app and switch to Map View or Split-Screen View from the Data Viewer. The Lasso Tool is only available when the map is visible.
Step 2: Activate the Lasso Tool
Click the Lasso Tool icon in the map toolbar. Your cursor will change to indicate draw mode is active.
Step 3: Draw your selection
Click and drag on the map to draw a freehand shape around the records you want to select. Release the mouse to close the selection. Records within your drawn area will be highlighted.
Step 4: Review your selection
After drawing, you'll see a record count in the top banner showing the number of records that are currently selected.
Step 5: Take a bulk action
With records selected, click the record count menu choose one of the following actions:
Bulk Edit

Project — move all selected records to a different project
Status — update the status of all selected records
Select the action, enter the number of records you are changing and click Confirm to apply to all selected records.

Download
Click Download Data to export all selected records. This is useful for pulling a geographic subset of your data without setting up a filter — for example, exporting all records within a specific work area.
Tips
Use filters to narrow your records before using the Lasso Tool if you're working with a dense map.
You can redraw your selection at any time by clicking the Lasso Tool icon again.
The Lasso Tool selects records based on their location on the map. Keep in mind:
Point records are selected if their location falls within your drawn shape.
Line and polygon records must be fully enclosed by your lasso to be selected — drawing around only part of a geometry won't select the record.
Records without a location will not be included in the selection.
Use the toolbar to act on your selection or clear it at any time without leaving lasso mode.
To pan or interact with the map, click the Pointer tool in the toolbar. The Pointer also lets you select individual shapes after drawing them with the Lasso.
To fine-tune a shape, double-click it to enter edit mode and drag individual nodes to adjust the boundary.
To remove a node from your shape, double-click it to enter edit mode, then select the node and press Delete on your keyboard or right-click it to remove it.
To delete a selected shape, click Clear on the toolbar or press Delete on your keyboard.
