Understanding Offline Map Compatibility
While Fulcrum offers diverse mapping options, KML/KMZ layers specifically do not support offline use in the mobile app. To empower your team in areas with limited connectivity, you must utilize supported offline formats to maintain productivity.
Supported Formats for Offline Use
The following formats remain available when your device has no internet connection.
KML / KMZ
As of version 2605.1.0 on iOS and Android, KML and KMZ layers now support offline use. Once the layer has been loaded while online, it will remain accessible in the field without a network connection. No additional configuration is required.
MBTiles
MBTiles is the recommended format for high-resolution offline imagery. It supports both online and offline use and is well suited to field workflows that require detailed basemap coverage. See Create your own offline MBTiles map for setup instructions.
ArcGIS Feature Service Layers
ArcGIS Feature Service Layers support both online and offline synchronisation, making them a reliable choice for teams that need consistent layer access across varying connectivity conditions. See How do I connect to ArcGIS to see my private layers? for setup instructions.
Online-only formats
The following format requires an active internet connection and will not be available during offline sessions.
Tile XYZ Sources
If you rely solely on Tile XYZ layers, you will lose map visibility when your device goes offline. Plan ahead by adding an offline-compatible layer format before heading into the field.
Notes
Always sync your device while online to download the latest app definitions and map layers before heading into the field.
KML/KMZ offline support requires version 2605.1.0 or later on iOS or Android. Earlier versions of the app do not support KML/KMZ layers offline.
ArcGIS Feature Service Layer offline sync requires the layer to be configured for offline use within ArcGIS before it will work in Fulcrum.
