Resolving iPad Photo Rotation Issues

Adjusting iPadOS multitasking settings to allow the Fulcrum camera to rotate between portrait and landscape modes.

Overview

If the Fulcrum app does not rotate from portrait to landscape mode while capturing photos on an iPad, the issue may be related to the device’s Multitasking settings in iPadOS.

Recent versions of iPadOS allow apps to run in windowed mode, which can prevent certain apps from rotating correctly when using the camera.

Switching the device to Full Screen Apps resolves this behavior and allows the camera to rotate normally while taking photos.

Identifying the Cause

When windowed apps are enabled in iPadOS, applications may run in a floating or split view environment. In this mode, some apps—including Fulcrum—may not rotate correctly when accessing the camera.

Changing the multitasking setting to Full Screen Apps allows the app to use the device’s orientation properly.

Enabling Full-Screen Mode

Follow the steps below to enable full-screen mode for apps on your iPad.

Step 1: Open the Settings App

  • On your iPad, open Settings.

Step 2: Navigate to Multitasking Settings

  • Scroll down the left-hand menu and tap Multitasking & Gestures.

iPad Settings menu with Multitasking & Gestures selected and a pink arrow pointing to the menu item.

Step 3: Enable Full-Screen Apps

  • Select Full Screen Apps. This setting disables windowed mode and forces apps to utilize the entire display.

Step 4: Restart the Fulcrum App

  • Close the Fulcrum app completely.

  • Reopen the app.

Step 5: Verify Photo Capture

  • Open a record in Fulcrum.

  • Try capturing a photo again.

The camera should now rotate correctly between portrait and landscape modes.

Devices Affected

This behavior may occur on devices such as:

  • iPad (10th generation)

  • Other iPads running recent versions of iPadOS

Notes

  • This behavior is related to iPadOS system settings, not a bug in the Fulcrum app.

  • Enabling Full Screen Apps ensures that the app can use the device’s orientation normally.

  • If the issue persists, restarting the device may help refresh the settings.
