Fulcrum MCP and the Fulcrum AI Toolkit let AI assistants such as Claude, ChatGPT, Codex, and Microsoft Copilot work directly with your Fulcrum organization. You describe what you need in plain language, and your assistant builds or updates apps, sets up automation, and answers questions about your records.
This is a Labs release. Labs features are early versions that are still in progress. They aren't fully supported yet and may change. We recommend trying them in a non-production organization first.
How the two components work together
Fulcrum MCP and the AI Toolkit do different jobs. Install both for the best results.
Component | What it does | Requirements |
Fulcrum AI Toolkit | Teaches your assistant Fulcrum best practices, such as choosing field types, structuring apps, writing safe automation, and flagging missing safety fields. | None. Free to install. |
Fulcrum MCP | Connects your assistant to your Fulcrum organization so it can take action. | Elite or Enterprise plan and an API token. |
When you use Fulcrum MCP without the AI Toolkit, your assistant can take action, but it doesn't know Fulcrum's best practices and is more likely to make mistakes. When you use the AI Toolkit without Fulcrum MCP, your assistant designs the app for you and produces a ready-to-build plan instead of building it in your organization.
What you can do
With both components installed, your assistant can:
Build a new app from a plain-language description.
Add or change fields, sections, and choice lists in an existing app.
Create shared choice lists used across multiple apps.
Set up webhooks to send data to other systems.
Generate app extensions and report templates.
Answer questions about your records. Queries are read-only.
Examples
"Build an app for daily site safety inspections with a photo field and an inspector signature."
"Add a Priority choice field with High, Medium, and Low to my Pole Inspection app."
"How many records were created in the Tree Survey app last month?"
Requirements
Before you start, make sure you have the following.
Fulcrum plan: Fulcrum MCP requires the Elite or Enterprise plan. The AI Toolkit works on any plan. See Developer Pack (API and Webhook access).
API token and endpoint: Learn how in Getting your API token and endpoint for Fulcrum MCP.
AI tool access: Your AI tool plan and permissions must allow plugins and custom connections. On business plans, this is often limited to administrators.
Setup guides
The setup steps are different for each AI tool. Select the guide for your tool:
For other tools, such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor, and Gemini, see the installation commands in the Fulcrum Developer Docs.
What's next
We're working on two changes to simplify setup: signing in to connect, so you won't need an API token, and one-click installation from AI tool marketplaces. We'll update these articles when those changes are available.
Notes
Each AI tool provider bills you for AI usage directly. Fulcrum doesn't charge for AI Toolkit or Fulcrum MCP usage.
Fulcrum MCP is covered by the same security practices and terms of service as the rest of the Fulcrum platform.
