When the Default to previous value option is enabled, the field will automatically populate with the value that was previously entered into that field. This functionality will trigger on creating new records or editing existing records if the field value is empty. This allows data collectors to quickly capture new records when much of the values are the same for a series of records.

Default to previous value? is available on all fields except the following: Sections, Repeatable Sections, Label, Signature, Photo, Video, Audio, and Hyperlink.

Checkbox to enable the Default to previous value option.

Notes

  • This is a localized feature, meaning that it only retains the last value that was entered on the app (Android, iOS, Web) being used. It will not automatically populate a value that was previously captured on another device.

  • In cases where you need to “clear” fields with defaults, you can use a placeholder text or a special item in a choice field to indicate a “no value”.
